In this week's 12th and Broad #BroadStyle post, I talked about how the hubs and I don't normally take beach vacations. We love a little pool time, but we love exploring different cities more. I'm also the palest Italian, so me and a lot of sun time, don't mix very well. In a few weeks, we have a family wedding in Barbados, so to the beach we go. As I said on 12th and Broad, I've been equal parts excited and anxious. I'm excited to get there and check out the island. I'm not excited about finding a damn bathing suit. Why is it so difficult? Why do they look like they're held together with dental floss? I'll take jeans shopping any day over this dreaded bathing suit situation. My first attempt at trying on these little badges of insecurity resulted in me putting myself on a reduced-calorie diet where I eat six small meals a day. Granted I feel better, but we'll really see how I'm doing when the TopShop bathing suits I ordered arrive on my door step later this week. My beach essentials will include a lot of linen, silk and cotton...and sunscreen....copious amounts of sunscreen. Here are a few of my summer picks from two of my favorite Nashville designers.
Black by Maria Silver Nexus Tunic - I picked up this gorgeous black and white cotton gauze tunic and I promise you I'm going to live in it all summer. It will be the perfect bathing suit cover up in Barbados and it's going to look great with a pair of denim shorts, my favorite dressy track pants and even layered over a maxi dress.
I can only imagine how comfortable the Nexus pants are. These may be next on my purchase list.
Elizabeth Suzann's entire collection screams "I want to be by the sea" in quiet muted neutrals made from silk and linen. I want to explore the island in this Stripe Georgia dress. I want to wear the Keaton Jumpsuit to the rehearsal dinner. And I want to wear the Sienna Dress to the wedding on the beach.
Regardless if you're heading to the beach or you're just looking for a few new pieces for those summer weddings or lazy days at the lake, here are a few more essentials to get you through the summer.
