Fashion Friday: The Puffer Coat

Happy Friday from the snowy tundra of Nashville! The snow is still falling and hopefully you're enjoying a snow day. I had something different in mind for today's Fashion Friday, but it seemed more appropriate to focus on a staple of the winter season, and something we can all use today, the puffer coat.

I remember these coats from when I was a kid in northeast Ohio in the '70s and '80s. Puffer coats were winter staples, but let's face it, we all looked like the Michelin Man. I remember how hard it was to put your arms down in these jackets because by the time you put your four layers on and then your coat, there was so much bulk you couldn't move.

Today's puffer jackets are high tech and super slim. Many use a down alternative, which I love because I was always allergic to down and it's nicer to the animals. They're also just as warm, if not warmer, as the original version and you don't need to wear as many layers. With today's "athleisure" trend still on the rise, they've also become pretty fashionable. Carbon38 carries a peplum puffer!

Here are some of my favorite puffer jackets to keep you warm, cozy and stylish this winter. Check back Monday for the puffer How To Wear It featuring more cold weather essentials.

Stay warm out there!

How To Wear It: Summer Jumpsuits

I have an obsession with jumpsuits, but you probably already know that. I talk about it a lot. I've seen some really great ones this summer, including this navy number from Vince. They're a great alternative to a dress and when paired with heels, they look oh so chic. This particular Vince jumpsuit caught my eye because it's perfect for summer. I have a similar one from Banana Republic and it has been my go-to piece all season. I wear it to work with a kimono and then shed the kimono and add a killer pair of heels for dinner out that night. Drawstrings and back pockets are key. They help define your waist and your back side so you don't look like you're wearing a sack. And since I also love dressy track pants, I love that this Vince jumpsuit has banded ankles. I'm not particular though. I also love when they have a wider leg. The Vince jumpsuit pictured here is from Shopbop, but as your shopping the last few days of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale you'll find some great jumpsuit options. All of the other items pictured here are part of the Anniversary Sale. Hover over the collage and click the "+" to see more information about each item. I hope you've been finding some amazing deals. Prices go back up on Monday, August 3.

How to Wear It: Bold Florals

These aren't your typical girly-girl Laura Ashley florals. These florals are as big and bold with their color as they are with their design. They're edgy and fun and make anything in your closet instantly more modern. The floral print on this Anthropologie skirt is large enough that it's almost more of an abstract print than a floral. I chose to pair this high waisted maxi with a crop top, but a tucked in tank top or sleeveless blouse would look just as great. I kept everything neutral here to let the maxi skirt be the focal point. Have some fun with accessories and make sure to add a bold bright lip and nail lacquer to finish off your look.
