With the type of work I do, I always have access to free t-shirts (especially from fundraising events or emerging fashion brands) but I happen to be very particular about the tees I wear. Call me a cotton snob, but they must already possess that soft worn-in feel and fit my torso “just so” for me to even want to wear it to the gym, let alone wear it out and about on a sticky Summer day!
With that being said, I have a nifty little collection of band tees I cherish to the core. Ranging from my vintage Bruce Springsteen three-quarter length sleeve baseball tee (it’s actually a kid’s size shirt!), to the assortment of vintage remakes I’ve amassed of Aerosmith, Jimi Hendrix, The Pretenders, Fleetwood Mac, ACDC and David Bowie from Trunk Ltd, it’s clear I love band tees.
My elation kicked into high gear when CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Menswear Designer of the Year Billy Reid (who is also known for hosting bitchin’ SXSW Music Festival Shindigs) started to feature fantastic band tees in his collection. I was lucky enough to attend his SXSW party this year and caught Brendan Benson, The Apache Relay and Delta Spirit‘s sets. My Billy sighting was the icing on the cake. He was jammin’ right along during the shows with his rumpled chinos and signature specs.
I know that Stella Shoppers love a good deal, so check out these tees that are currently 50% off!
I was lucky enough to book a small tour and radio promotion with the fellas from Delta Spirit a few years ago and they continue to be one of my favorite bands. Check out their music and then buy this tee for only $24.
Brendan Benson (solo artist and also of the Raconteurs) also runs Nashville-based Readymade Records. With your purchase of these 100% cotton tees, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the artists too! Original price $48 – On SALE now for $24
You can order these online or head to one of seven Billy Reid retail locations including our beloved Nashville store.
Although you may have missed SXSW this year, you can still download the FREE seven-song digital sampler of the featured artists from American Songwriter Magazine.
Comment below and let me know which songs from the sampler you can’t get enough of and what (new or old) band tee you keep wearing out.
Keep cool until next Sunday loves!
