I rounded up my favorite fall fashion trends on 12th & Broad and each week I'll be highlighting another one of those trends here. This week is one of my favorites. Angela Chase from My So-Called Life epitomized 90s style. She layered, mixed prints, wore chunky boots with her floral dresses and always had an oversized sweater or plaid shirt. I was in college in the early 90s, so my personal style definitely has evolved out of what I was wearing during that time. Like Angela, we wore a lot of plaid, sported Doc Martens and Birkenstocks, wore high-waisted ripped jeans and slung backpacks. I could not have been more excited to see the Fall/Winter 2015 runways full of these 90s staples.

I love that past styles tend to come back around in a more elevated polished way. Layers are still oversized, but not so big they swallow you whole. Plaids are more refined and not the standard black watch variety I remember from my Catholic School days. The look has more of a minimal aesthetic than it did the first time around. That shift makes this trend infinitely more wearable than 20 years ago.
The Free People plaid dress in the collage below instantly made me think of Angela Chase. I love it because it's a great transition piece from summer into fall. I'd throw a biker jacket over it or a long sleeveless trench to play on the long layers. And the shoe options here are endless. I stuck with my '90's roots and went for a black bootie or a pair of grey Docs. Hover over the image and click on the "+" sign to link through to more product information.
