I recently took a new role with my company and now I have a territory that will take me from the Northeast through most of the South. I'll be traveling quite a bit so it seemed like a good time to start a new series to document my travels.
My first trip was a quick 24 hours in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Asbury is a seaside community located on the Jersey Shore. It's probably best known for it's music scene. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Jon Bon Jovi, Patti Smith, The Ramones and many more have ties to the city and legendary rock club, The Stone Pony, which opened in 1973. I didn't make it to The Pony on this trip, but it's certainly on the list to check out the next time I'm there.
We did have a really fantastic team dinner at Mumford's Culinary Center in Tinton Falls. Chef Chris Mumford hosted a private class for us where he walked us through the preparation for our entree course which included fresh skate, sirloin, spaghetti squash and mashed potatoes. Most of the herbs and vegetables Chef Chris used came from his garden at the restaurant and also from his farm in Vermont. We got tons of great tips and the recipes from the night. I'll be tackling spaghetti squash again soon. I've had one disastrous attempt at preparing it.
With only 24 hours, I didn't pack much for this trip. Only traveling with a carry-on is a pretty liberating feeling, but give me more than two days and that checked bag is coming with me. I was so close to NYC, I felt like it was only fitting to stick with my favorite basic - black.
