Stella Shops Turns 10!

Ten. Years. I can't believe Stella Shops is ten years old today. It seems like forever, but yet it's flown by. Looking back an incredible amount has happened in the ten years since Mizzie and I started Stella Shops on Blogger. Blogger! Does anyone remember that?

These ten years have been a heck of a run. Mizzie and I started this site because we wanted a way to share with everyone the amazing local boutiques we found when we moved to Nashville. We covered an incredible amount of shops and designers. We had a style column in Her Nashville, I wrote a style column for 12th & Broad at The Tennessean, and we were voted one of the best style blogs in Nashville five years in a row. We've met so many incredible people, many of whom are still good friends, and it's been a hell of a lot of fun.

I'm so thankful to all of you who have been reading and following along from the very beginning. And if you just started following today, thanks to you too. Thanks for reading and commenting and sharing! It means so much to see people engaging with the content you create. To all the boutiques and designers we've covered over the years, I have so much love and respect for all of you. And I can't thank you enough for your support with my Nashville Neighborhood toques. I love seeing so many of our early boutique spotlights still kicking ass. I'm looking at you MODA, UAL, H. Audrey, Perfect Pair, Old Made Good, Goodbuy Girls...Keep on killing it!

So you might wonder what our very first post was on August 8, 2008. It was a short spotlight on UAL, which in 2008 only had the West End location. It's fitting that was our first post since it's still one of my favorite shopping spots today. I've wrote about UAL at least two more times over the years including this post which originally ran in The Tennessean in 2016. Maybe I need to go back and do a follow up to those other OG boutiques. What do you think? A "where are they now?"

There were so many great contributor back in 2011 and 2012. Sierra Jacobson (Fashion Friday), Marcia Masulla (Shop Like You Give a Damn) and Cindy Wall (Object of Affection) - Thank You! The series and collaborations you did were so good and so much fun. You took time out of your very busy schedules to create some really awesome content. The same goes to Jessica McIntosh who shot our first photos, Daniel C. White who shot many of our boutique spotlights, and Tabitha Tune who not only shot the most recent boutique spotlights, but also helped me make the leap to SquareSpace. I've been so lucky to work with all of you.

Those collaborations led to so many other experiences. Like the time Marcia asked me to do a swimsuit shoot (WHAT?!) for 12th & Broad. Those photos are some of my favorites mainly because I had so much fun shooting with those amazing ladies that day. We had a blast.

If you are new to Stella Shops and are wondering who Stella is, I can't let this 10th birthday go by without remembering my sweet pug Stella. You can read more about her here. That sassy little lady stayed up with me night after night as I wrote and edited posts and photos. As I write this post, my other pug Mingus (at 13!) is holding down her spot right next to me.

 My Sweet Stella

My Sweet Stella

These days you've probably noticed I haven't been posting as often. I have a job I really love and honestly if it wasn't for this blog, I'm not sure I would be where I'm at today. Through Stella Shops, I challenged myself in so many ways that ultimately I found the things I'm passionate about. Could you ask for anything more out of your side hustle?

With my travel schedule making it difficult to post as often, when I have those moments I can load up my adventures on InstaStory I'm going to keep doing it. I want to share more lifestyle here because it reflects where I am and what I'm doing now. When I do have the time to post, you'll probably see a mix of style, cooking and travel posts. And with Fall around the corner, I'm heading into Season 3 of the Nashville Neighborhood hats. What neighborhoods would you like to see this year?

I hope you're still enjoying what you find here. Thanks again for your decade of support. Love you all. Cheers to another 10!

XO,

Carla
