Cindy is hard at work on this year's nD Festival which benefits the Belcourt Theatre and with the preview party happening this Thursday, I thought I would fill in for her this week. I have an object of affection for you, but I also wanted to tell you a little more about nD, since our favorite Sustainable Style Editor, Marcia, also plays a big role in this event. nD Festival is a fundraiser that supports the education and engagement programs at the Belcourt. It's a celebration of indie film, fashion and music and this year it starts on September 28 and runs through September 30. I've been behind the scenes a bit again this year and I can tell you that they've got some tricks up their sleeves. You're not going to want to miss a minute and you're especially not going to want to miss the Fashion Show and Auction that close the festival on September 30.
Head to imogene + willie Thursday from 6-8pm for the Preview Party. There will be more information about the festival and you'll be able to purchase your Patron Passes which are the best way to take in all of the festival events. You'll also be able to shop some of our favorite local merchants and artisans like Prairie Go Round, Debe Dohrer, Otis James and Emil Erwin.
So now for my current Object of Affection....
Saturday morning I woke up and went straight to Woo Cosmetics & Skincare for an eyebrow wax. I ended up finding the most amazing lip gloss and meeting the maker of said gloss, Meredith Tompkins of Kiss + Makeup. Could she be more adorable?!
Not only does Meredith create these fabulous lip glosses, she's a makeup artist, salon owner and mom to three children. Her 24 lip glosses and stains are hand developed and blended with a vitamin-enriched formula that provide incredible shine and color. Her unique formula includes Green Tea extract and Vitamin E, has an SPF of 8, and is completely paraben free.
Meredith is absolutely lovely and her glosses and stains are the real deal. The stains are water-based instead of alcohol-based so they don't dry your lips out. Once you apply, that color really does last all day..through countless cups of coffee and bottles of water...that color was still there. You can use as little or as much as you like to acquire just the right depth of color. Meredith chose the plum for me and I am obsessed with it. It's the perfect color to enhance my natural lip color and it looks great matte or with a simple lip balm over it. The key to the stain is to scrape the sponge applicator on the rim of the tube so you can take off any excess and gradually add the color to get the shade you want.
Next Meredith layered her lip gloss in Ciel over the stain. The color is amazing, it has just the right amount of shimmer, it's not sticky at all and it actually feels like it's moisturizing my lips. Needless to say...Sold!
Since Meredith hand blends her colors, she has the ability to host custom color parties where you can actually create your own one-of-a-kind lip gloss. How much fun does that sound?!
With every purchase on Saturday, you got a full size lip gloss that was specially made for the event. This one is the perfect neutral pink. It looks like it might be bright in the tube, but it doesn't go on that way.
I am always on the hunt for the perfect gloss and I think I just found it. Outside of Nashville, you can find Kiss + Makeup at Woo's Atlanta store and in Augusta, Georgia, where Meredith lives, at Ela and La Dolce Vita/Bella Faccia Airbrush + Makeup. You can also purchase online.
If you met Meredith on Saturday, what colors did you try?
