One thing that has always attracted Mizzie and me to Anthropologie is that wonderful mix of old and new. Their stores always have a romantic and vintage feel, but as you work your way through the store you find a fantastic mix of modern, classic and retro pieces. The new Anthropologie Shoes & Accessories Boutique which opened in The Mall at Green Hills last week is no exception. Inside this 1,200 square foot store located between Betsey Johnson and the Apple store, you will find a treasure trove of shoes, jewelry, handbags and other accessories. Many of these pieces are one-of-a-kind and carefully curated from all over the globe...and right here in Nashville.
It is important to note, this is only the second of these concept stores for Anthropologie, with the first being in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Mizzie and I were able to spend some time with Katherine Danneberg, Divisional Merchandise Manager of Shoes and Accessories, and Aaron Hoey, Global General Merchandise Manager of Accessories & Home for Anthropologie. We asked them 'why Nashville?' and both responded that Nashville is a great market for their brand. The shopper here knows what she wants. 'She's stylish, savvy and is very willing to seek out unique and specialized products.' We've known this all along, but it's nice to get some validation, right?
We were super impressed with the merchandise in this store. It is 60% shoes, but it's merchandised so well, you don't realize that as you look around. Aaron told us the store is really all about 'the sense of discovery and the hunt.' He's absolutely right. There are nooks and crannies all over this store. In them, you'll find amazing shoes, and tons of one-of-a-kind jewelry, handbags and accessories. These are items you won't find in the regular Anthropologie stores or online. They are specific to this boutique and some items are specific to the Nashville store. Most exciting is there are at least five Nashville designers who have jewelry in this store!
Katherine expressed to us how impressed she and her buyers were with the level of design talent here and it was a tough decision for them when looking at what lines they were going to carry in the store. They settled on some of our favorites. You'll find Sleeveless' gorgeous Victorian inspired cuffs, Karibeth Jewelry's amazing re-purposed vintage necklaces, and other fabulous jewelry finds from whats-in-store, Freshie and Zero and 2 Angels Jewelry.
Here's a look at some of the amazing pieces you'll find here.
These vintage Linda Farrow sunglasses have never been worn. They were dead stock found in a warehouse.
Doyle & Doyle is an estate and antique jeweler based in New York City. You'll find some of their gorgeous fine jewelry pieces and vintage engagement rings right here.
All Swarm handbags are one-of-a-kind. Leslie Oschmann worked for Anthropologie for eight years and was a Visual Director when she left the company, moved to Amsterdam and started making furniture and handbags from found objects. Her handbags are a mix of found oil paintings and needlepoint.
Sleeveless Cuffs, oh how we love thee.
Make your way to this gorgeous boutique and get ready to search and discover. Whether you have a special occasion or are just looking for a few pieces to update your Spring/Summer wardrobe, you will find it all here. We can't wait to go back and spend some more time exploring!
